HOPWA

CONNECTING THOSE IN NEED WITH HOUSING ASSISTANCE

If you or someone you care about is living with HIV/AIDS and struggling to find or keep safe housing, the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program offers a lifeline. We understand how critical stable housing is to your health, dignity, and peace of mind, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.

Through HOPWA, you can access:

  • Ongoing Rental Assistance
Receive support to afford safe, stable housing so you can focus on your health and well-being without the constant worry of losing your home.

  • Emergency Financial Help
Facing eviction or utility shutoff? We provide short-term assistance with rent, mortgage, or utility bills to help you stay housed and connected.

  • Supportive Housing Options
For those who need more structured care, we offer housing with built-in support services to help you live as independently and healthfully as possible.

  • Help with Moving In
Starting fresh? We can assist with security deposits, first month’s rent, and other move-in costs to make your transition smoother and more affordable.

Our mission is to reduce homelessness, improve health outcomes, and empower individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS to live with stability, dignity, and hope.

A STORY OF HOPE: CLARENCE*

“I was a Housing Opportunities Program client. I was homeless, living in a shed. Prior to the Housing Opportunities Program, my significant other passed away. My employer found out about my health issue. As a result, the employer made my work environment uncomfortable and difficult to work in. I quit the job because of those circumstances.  During this timeframe, I was dealing with physical health issues, stress, and grief. As the program was helping me to obtain housing, I fell sick. The landlord and the Housing Opportunities Program worked together to get me housed immediately. I was very emotional and said, ‘I am so grateful for the assistance.’  Finally, I was able to find another job.”
